(Movies) I Love

Man...I'm doing really bad with my New Year's Resolutions! I wanted to write on this blog at least once a week and floss my teeth more. Well, neither of those are working out too well. Oh well...they say it takes a few times before something becomes a habit. I'll work on it!

Another in the ( ) I Love series. This time it's about something that I really enjoy, movies! A couple of weeks ago, I saw a movie that is going down as one of my absolute favorites, The King's Speech!

I hadn't really given this film much thought, even after I heard that it was going to win a bunch of awards. But then my husband said that one of our friends was going to go see it with their family. Well, they ended up inviting us to go with! We ended up going to a cute little theater in downtown Edina. A side note, the popcorn there is GREAT! Anyways, I went into this movie not really knowing anything about it just that it was about King George VI and his rise to the throne. I also knew that he had a stutter he had to overcome and that the movie took place around the time of World War II. Oh, and of course I knew about the amazing actors they got to act in this movie!

Basically, the story is just what I had heard. This movie is about the stutter the eventual King George VI would have to overcome so he could be seen as a leader of strength for the British people at the start of World War II. But describing it in that way does not do this film justice at all! The relationships they highlight in this movie are so touching and beautiful! It was also interesting to see the history of how the British got into World War II. Of course I know the basics of it all, but to see the emotions of the people and the politics of the British Royalty at that time was very interesting!

Oh, and surprisingly, it has it's very funny moments! One of them is the reason why this movie got a R rating, but it really wasn't that bad. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!*** Geoffry Rush's character noticed that King George (the always wonderful Colin Firth) didn't stutter when he swore, so he just told King George to start swearing. So, he did! ***END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!!*** Trust me, it's hilarious! I'm not a girl that swears a lot, but this was pretty funny!

Pretty much everything was amazing in this film: the acting, the costumes, the scenery, the music, the writing. I could go on and on. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the cinematography. I thought it was trying a little too hard to be "artsy" by have the actor off centered from the rest of the scene. But I did get used to it eventually.

As the title says, I love The King's Speech and highly recommend it!
